A Treatise on the Ancient Ones

In a dark cavern miles below the surface lived an ancient race long ago. They were very much like large dragons with a few characteristics of spiders also. Their skin was of black opalescence with purple hues. They had long sharp fangs and large crystal eyes that seemed to penetrate deep within you when looked upon. They had wings that spread to each side by 30 feet. Their tails, above the sack that spins webbing, were 40 feet long. They also had scales along the entire body as well. Their heads are hard to describe. At one angle they looked like a dragon's and the other as if the shadows trick you into thinking they are a spider's instead.

They were very intelligent and knew about the creatures below and above the surface. They didn't care too much for large bodies of water, but would tolerate them if need be. They studied magics and alchemy substances through the use of formal magics. They created beings of their own bodies which had 2 usable arms and small legs which could negotiate small places and things. They used a magic that is lost today. It was a mix of different magics as you would know it. They could do things within minutes that would require much strength and skill to accomplish today in a lifetime.

They had an enemy, the Kumi, that would see them completely destroyed. This enemy killed almost all of them with only a few left. The Ancient Queen decided to sacrifice herself to save her kind from extinction. She performed a ritual of highest powers and transformed herself into a magical essence which was placed into several pieces of her body which no longer held life. Her enemy never discovered that knowledge.

After the pieces were placed everywhere by her children, the dark elves who had the skills to write and keep histories, they perished. The people whom we know now to be of the Dark Elven race, have kept some of the histories in scrolls or plates. Most of these writings are nonexistent today. They told of their creators and how they came to be. They also gave some journals of the lives of the ancient ones who used those special magics not known and how they were wielded.

The Kumi has allies within our race. These Dark elves are very dangerous to the common person. They use the spiders as allies to acquire what they desire. They do not believe in mercy. When the Ancient Ones were alive, the Dark Elves were not their slaves in any way, but rather treated as children. The Ancient Kumi enslaved the Dark Elves once the Ancient Ones were destroyed. Taking these pathetic creatures and enslaving them would bring joy to the Kumi.

The Ancient Kumi, known as the Spider Lords at this time, were cruel and tainted with Evil. They were then, the Masters of the Dark Elves. The Kumi taught the dark elves how to scheme and plot against one another. Some were even given a little leadership over the others and were referred to as the Spider Sect. These sanctions within the Elven society caused many problems to the race as a whole.
